Dr. Kathrin Peters hat den Ruf auf die
Professur für „Theorie und Geschichte
gegenwärtiger Medien“ an das Kulturwis-
senschaftliche Institut angenommen.Die
Wissenschaftlerin verwaltete die Professur
bereits seit April 2011. Peters studierte
Kommunikationsdesign an der Univer-
sität Essen, danach Kulturwissenschaft
und Kunstgeschichte an der Humboldt-
Universität Berlin, wo sie mit einer Arbeit über Fotografie um
1900 promovierte. Peters war seit 2001Wissenschaftliche Mit-
arbeiterin an der Kunsthochschule für Medien in Köln, an der
Hochschule für Grafik und Kunst in Leipzig, der Hochschule für
Bildende Künste Braunschweig sowie der Freien Universität
Berlin. 2009 verwaltete sie die Professur für „Geschichte und
Theorie der technischen Medien“ an der Fachhochschule
Potsdam. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind die Geschichte
und Theorie der Fotografie, Gender und Medien, Medienge-
schichte der Architektur und Planung, Film und Kunst der
Gegenwart.
Dr. Kathrin Peters has been appointed Professor of Theory and
History of Contemporary Media at the Cultural Studies Insti-
tute. Dr. Peters has been conducting the day-to-day business
of the professorship since April 2011. She studied communica-
tion design at the University of Duisberg-Essen, then cultural
studies and history of art at Berlin's Humboldt University,
where she received her PhD for a paper on photography at
the turn of the 20th century. From 2001 Peters was a research
fellow at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, the Academy
of Visual Arts in Leipzig, the Braunschweig University of Art
and the Freie Universität Berlin. In 2009 she administered the
professorship for History and Theory of Technical Media at
the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences. Her main areas
of research are the history and theory of photography, gender
and media, the media history of architecture and planning,
and contemporary film and art.
Prof. Dr. Andreas Eis hat den Ruf auf die
Professur „Didaktik des politischen Un-
terrichts und der politischen Bildung“
an das Institut für Sozialwissenschaften
angenommen. Zuvor war Eis seit 2009
Vertretungsprofessor für Didaktik der
Sozialwissenschaften an der Universität
Frankfurt/Main. Eis studierte Sozialkunde
und Philosophie in Jena, Rennes (Frank-
reich) und East-Lansing (USA).Nach dem Referendariat folgte
2004 ein Graduiertenstudium der Empirischen Didaktikfor-
schung an der Universität Jena. Als Wissenschaftlicher Mitar-
beiter war Eis an den Universitäten Augsburg und Jena tätig,
wo er 2009 auch promovierte.Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte
sind die europapolitische Bildung, Transformationsprozesse
und Vergesellschaftung in entgrenzten Demokratien, Di-
versität und partizipatorische Demokratiebildung sowie die
qualitative Lern- und Unterrichtsforschung.
Prof.Dr.Andreas Eis has been appointed to the Chair of Didac-
tics of Politics Lessons and Political Education at the Institute
of Social Sciences.Prior to his appointment he was a substitute
professor for the didactics of social sciences at the Goethe
University Frankfurt, a post he took up in 2009. Professor Eis
read social sciences and philosophy in Jena, Rennes (France)
and East-Lansing (USA). After completing his teacher trai-
ning he began a graduate programme in empirical didactics
research at the University of Jena in 2004. He was a research
associate at the universities of Augsburg and Jena, where
he obtained his PhD in 2009. His main research interests are
European political education, transformation processes and
socialisation in de-marginalised democracies, diversity and
participative democratisation as well as qualitative learning
and teaching research.
Dr.Timo Gerkmann, bisher Postdoktorand
am Sound and Image Processing Lab
der Königlich Technischen Hochschule
Stockholm (Schweden), ist neuer Junior-
professor für Sprachverarbeitung am In-
stitut für Physik.Gerkmann studierte Elek-
trotechnik und Informationstechnik an
den Universitäten Bremen und Bochum.
In Bochum war er Wissenschaftlicher
Mitarbeiter und promovierte dort 2010. Ein sechsmonatiger
Forschungsaufenthalt führte ihn an das Forschungszentrum
Siemens Corporate Research in Princeton (USA). Gerkmanns
Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen in den Bereichen Sprachver-
besserungssysteme, Modellierung von Sprachsignalen und
Hörgeräte-Applikationen.
Dr. Timo Gerkmann, previously a post-doctoral researcher at
the Sound and Image Processing Lab of the Royal Institute
of Technology in Stockholm (Sweden) is the new Junior
Professor for Speech Processing at the Institute of Physics.
Gerkmann studied electrical engineering and information
technology at the Universities of Bremen and Bochum.He was
a research associate at Bochum,where he received his PhD in
2010. A six-month research trip brought him to the Siemens
Corporate Research centre in Princeton (USA). Gerkmann's
main research areas are systems for improving speech, the
modelling of speech signals and hearing device applications.
