Auszeichnung in Berlin unterstrich Universitätspräsidentin Prof.
Dr. Babette Simon die hohe inhaltliche und organisatorische
Bedeutung des Themas„Unternehmensgründung“ an der Uni-
versität Oldenburg.Ziel sei es,europaweiter Anziehungspunkt für
gründungsinteressierte Studierende,Wissenschaftlerinnen und
Wissenschaftler zu werden. Das Bundeswirtschaftsministerium
stellt der Universität ab Herbst 2011 für eine Laufzeit von fünf
Jahren bis zu 2,7 Millionen Euro zur Verfügung.„Wir möchten
nicht einfach nur die vielen bereits erfolgreichen Ansätze der
Gründungsförderung an unserer Universität weiterentwickeln“,
sagte Prof. Dr. Alexander Nicolai, Inhaber des Stiftungslehrstuhls
Entrepreneurship,„sondern dem Gründer- und Unternehmens-
geist die Luft zum Atmen geben, die er braucht.“ Geplant sind
unter anderem die Einrichtung eines universitätsnahen Frühfi-
nanzierungsfonds und ein Gründungs- und Innovationszentrum,
das als zentrale Anlaufstelle für Gründungsinteressierte fungiert.
European Medical School Oldenburg-Groningen
Die Einrichtung der European Medical School Oldenburg-Gro-
ningen geht mit großen Schritten voran. Im Juli konstituierte
NiedersachsensWissenschaftsministerin Prof.Dr. JohannaWanka
in Oldenburg den Gründungsausschuss der European Medical
School. Er setzt sich aus 19 hochkarätigen Persönlichkeiten aus
dem gesamten Bundesgebiet zusammen.„Die Konstituierung
des Gründungsausschusses und die von der Landesregierung
bereitgestellten 49Millionen Euro verleihender EuropeanMedical
School deutliche Schubkraft.Angestrebt ist es,die künftig in einer
einmaligen deutsch-niederländischen Kooperation erfolgende
Medizinerausbildung bereits zumWintersemester kommenden
Jahres zu beginnen“, sagte Wanka anlässlich der Konstituierung.
Der Gründungsausschuss hat eine beratende Funktion.Als sach-
verständiger Gutachter gibt er zu wichtigen Fragestellungen der
European Medical School Stellungnahmen und Empfehlungen,
die den verantwortlichen Gremien zur Entscheidung zugeleitet
werden.Prof.Dr.Eckhart GeorgHahn,zuvor Dekan der Fakultät für
Gesundheit der UniversitätWitten/Herdecke,nahmzum1.August
seine Arbeit als künftiger Gründungsdekan der Medizinischen
Fakultät der Universität Oldenburg auf. Neben der Gründung
der Fakultät und der Einrichtung der European Medical School
Oldenburg-Groningen wird er die Entstehung eines Universi-
tätsklinikums mit den Oldenburger Kliniken vorantreiben. Uni-
versitätspräsidentin Prof.Dr.Babette Simon erklärte:„Mit Professor
Hahn gewinnen wir einen ausgewiesenen Experten für Medizi-
nische Ausbildung und hervorragendenWissenschaftsmanager
für diese wichtige und zukunftsweisende Position“.
Kooperation Universität − Jade Hochschule:
Komusiewicz Vorsitzender des
Lenkungsausschusses
Dr. Johann Komusiewicz, ehemaliger Staatssekretär imMinisterium
für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kultur des Landes Brandenburg,
ist zumVorsitzenden des gemeinsamen Lenkungsausschusses der
Universität Oldenburg und der Jade Hochschule bestellt worden.
Laut Niedersächsischem Hochschulgesetz hat der Lenkungs-
ausschuss unter anderem die Aufgabe, die zukunftsorientierte
total participated. At the award ceremony in Berlin, University
President Prof. Dr. Babette Simon underlined how the Univer-
sity of Oldenburg attaches great importance to the subject
business start-ups in terms of its content and organisation.The
goal, she explained, was to become a pan-European hub for
researchers and students interested in business start-ups. The
Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology will provide up
to 2.7 million euros in funding over a five-year period starting
in autumn 2011. "We aim not just to develop the many alrea-
dy successful approaches for promoting businesses start-ups
at our university," said Prof. Dr. Alexander Nicolai, who holds
the Endowed Chair for Entrepreneurship, "but also to give the
spirit of entrepreneurship the air it needs to breathe." There
are plans for the founding of a university-affiliated early-stage
financing fund as well as a start-up and innovation centre that
is to function as a central contact point for those interested in
starting up businesses.
European Medical School Oldenburg-Groningen
Rapid progress is being made regarding the establishing of the
EuropeanMedical School Oldenburg-Groningen. In July Johanna
Wanka, Lower Saxony's Minister of Science and Culture, establis-
hed the founding committee of the European Medical School.
It is made up of 19 leading personalities from all over Germany.
"The establishment of the founding committee and the 49
million euros made available for the project by the government
of Lower Saxony gives the European Medical School project a
considerable boost. The aim is to launch the medical training
programme, which will be the product of a unique German-
Dutch cooperation,at the beginning of the winter semester next
year," said ProfessorWanka on the occasion of the creation of the
committee.The founding committeewill assume an advisory role.
It will give expert opinions and recommendations on important
issues pertaining to the European Medical School that will be
passed on to the respective decision-making committees. Prof.
Dr.Eckhart Georg Hahn,previously Dean of the Faculty for Health
at Witten/Herdecke University, began his work on August 1 as
future Founding Dean of the Medical Faculty at the University
of Oldenburg. In addition to overseeing the founding of the
faculty and the establishment of the European Medical School
Oldenburg-Groningen,hewill work towards the creation of a uni-
versity clinic in cooperationwith theOldenburg clinics.University
President Prof. Dr. Babette Simon commented: "With Professor
Hahn we have gained the services of a confirmed expert in the
field of medical training and an outstanding science manager
for this important and pioneering position."

Komusiewicz appointed Chairman
of the Steering Committee
Dr. Johann Komusiewicz, former State Secretary at the Ministry of
Research Science and Culture of the State of Brandenburg,has been
appointed Chairman of the Steering Committee of the University
of Oldenburg's and the Jade University of Applied Sciences.Under
the legislation that governs higher education in Lower Saxony the
Steering Committee has among other things the task of guiding
the future-oriented development of the two universities and
