BERUFUNGEN NEW APPOINTMENTS
Prof. Dr. Jannis Hildebrandt, bisher Wis-
senschaftlicher Mitarbeiter des Hörfor-
schungsinstituts am University College
London (Großbritannien), ist zum Junior-
professor für „Neurobiologie des Hörens“
in der Fakultät VI Medizin und Gesund-
heitswissenschaften ernannt worden.
Hildebrandt studierte Biologie und Neu-
robiologie an der Humboldt-Universität
zu Berlin, wo er 2010 promovierte. Verschiedene Forschungs-
aufenthalte führten ihn unter anderem an die Stanford Uni-
versity (USA) sowie an die Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal).
Zu den Schwerpunkten des Neurobiologen gehören die Me-
chanismen auditiver Verarbeitung und die elektro-chemische
Signalübertragung im Nervensystem.
Prof. Dr. Jannis Hildebrandt, previously a research fellow at
the Ear Institute of University College London (UK), has been
appointed junior professor for the "Neurobiology of Hearing"
at the Faculty IV School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Hildebrandt studied biology and neurobiology at the Hum-
boldt University of Berlin where he also completed his Phd
in 2010. Various research visits led him among other places
to Stanford University (USA) and the Universidade de Lisboa
(Portugal). The neurobiologist's main research interests inclu-
de mechanisms of auditory processing and electrochemical
signal transfer in the nervous system.
Prof. Dr. Volker Hohmann, bisher Außer-
planmäßiger Professor am Institut für Phy-
sik, ist auf die Professur für Psychoakustik
berufen worden. Hohmann, Hörforscher
im Exzellenzcluster „Hearing4all“, erhielt
im November gemeinsam mit dem Ol-
denburger Physiker und Mediziner Prof.
Dr. Dr. Birger Kollmeier und Dr. Torsten
Niederdränk (Siemens AG) den Deutschen
Zukunftspreis 2012. Hohmann studierte Physik in Göttingen,
wo er auch promovierte. Seit 1993 ist er am Institut für Phy-
sik der Universität Oldenburg tätig. Hier habilitierte er sich
2007. Hohmann zählt zu den Gründern des Hörzentrums
Oldenburg. Forschungsaufenthalte führten ihn an die Boston
University (USA) und die Technical University of Catalonia
in Barcelona (Spanien). Die Forschungsschwerpunkte des
Wissenschaftlers sind Modelle der Signalverarbeitung im
auditorischen System, insbesondere des binauralen (zwei-
ohrigen) Hörens.
Prof. Dr. Volker Hohmann, until now a supernumerary profes-
sor at the Institute of Physics, has been appointed professor
of psychoacoustics. Hohmann, a hearing researcher with
the "Hearing4all" Excellence cluster, received the German
Future Prize 2012 in November along with Oldenburg physi-
cist Prof. Dr. Dr. Birger Kollmeier and Dr. Torsten Niederdränk
(Siemens AG). He studied physics in Gottingen, where he
also completed his PhD. He has worked at the University of
Oldenburg' Institute of Physics since 1993. Here he habilitated
in 2007. Hohmann was one of the co-founders of the Hörzen-
trum Oldenburg. Research visits have taken him to Boston
University (USA) and the Technical University of Catalonia in
Barcelona (Spain). His main areas of research are models for
signal processing in the auditory system, in particular binaural
(stereo) hearing.
Prof. Dr. Niklas Nilius, bislang Leiter der
Arbeitsgruppe „Rastertunnelmikroskopie
und –spektroskopie“ in der Abteilung
Chemische Physik am Fritz-Haber-Institut
Berlin, ist neuer Hochschullehrer für Expe-
rimentalphysik am Institut für Physik. Nilius
studierte Physik an den Universitäten Jena
und Halle (Saale) und promovierte 2001
an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
Forschungsaufenthalte führten ihn unter anderem an die
University of California, Irvine. Zu Nilius’ Forschungsschwer-
punkten gehören die Untersuchung oxidischer Materialien
mit Anwendungen in der heterogenen Katalyse.
Prof. Dr. Niklas Nilius, hitherto workgroup leader of the “Scan-
ning Probe Micro- and Spectroscopy Group” in the Chemical
Physics Department at the Fritz Haber Institute, Berlin, is the
new professor for experimental physics at the Institute of
Physics. Nilius studied physics at the Universities of Jena and
Halle (Saale) and obtained his PhD in 2001 at the Humboldt
University of Berlin. Research stays took him, among other
places, to the University of California, Irvine. Among the fo-
cuses of Nilius's research is the investigation of oxidic materials
with applications in heterogenous catalysis.
Prof. Dr. Michael Sommer hat den Ruf auf
die Professur für Alte Geschichte am In-
stitut für Geschichte angenommen. Som-
mer studierte Geschichte, Lateinische und
Griechische Philologie, Alte Geschichte,
Wissenschaftliche Politik und Vorder-
asiatische Archäologie an der Universität
Freiburg. Nach der Promotion 1999 war
er Wissenschaftlicher Angestellter und
Lehrbeauftragter am Orientalischen Seminar der Universität
Freiburg. Es folgte ein zweijähriger Aufenthalt als Visiting Fel-
low am Wolfson College der Universität Oxford. 2004 kehrte
er nach Freiburg zurück, wo er sich habilitierte. Anschließend
wechselte er an die Universität Liverpool. Zu den Forschungs-
schwerpunkten des Althistorikers zählen die antike Wirtschaft
sowie das Thema Bürgerrecht und Staatsangehörigkeit.
Prof. Dr. Michael Sommer has accepted the professorship for
ancient history at the Institute of History. Sommer studied
history, Latin and Greek philology, ancient history, political
science and Near East archaeology at the University of Frei-
burg. After completing his doctorate in 1999 he taught as a
research fellow and lecturer in the Department of Oriental
Studies at the University of Freiburg. He then spent two years
as a visiting fellow at Wolfson College, Oxford University. In
2004 he returned to Freiburg, where he earned his habilitation
before transferring to the University of Liverpool. Sommer's
research focuses among other things on the economies of
antiquity and issues of civil rights and citizenship.
