Sie haben auf faszinierende Weise die Baumkronen erobert:
Epiphyten, sogenannte Aufsitzerpflanzen. In den Wipfeln
des tropischen Regenwaldes widerstehen sie extremer Tro-
ckenheit – und bieten Krebstieren, Asseln und Libellenlarven
Lebensraum. Doch die Aussichten für die einfallsreichen
Pflanzen und ihre Bewohner sind nicht gut.
Epiphytes are plants that grow on other plants, and
they have colonised the treetops in a fascinating way.
Living in the canopies of tropical rainforests, they can
survive extremely arid conditions and provide a ha-
bitat for crustaceans, woodlice and dragonfly larvae.
However the future does not look promising for these
resourceful plants and their inhabitants.
